Well, I’ve at least gotten better at Terraforming Mars, although there is some better progress on the resolutions:
New Novel Get two chapters finished. The revisions on the first of the two chapters was finished, but I only have 596 words of a second chapter written.
Goal for March–April: Finish this chapter plus one more.
We, the Rescued Complete revisions on the novel. Alas, I’m not as far along as I’d hoped, with only 15 out of 29 chapters revised, but this should be easily done.
Goal for March–April: Finish the revisions, let it sit and think about what to do next with this.
Non-Fiction project Finish three chapters. Not even close, I’m still working on the revisions to the first chapter.
Goal for March–April: I think I can finish the current chapter plus two more in the next month. Time to make it happen.
Entertainment 15,000 words written. I failed, getting only 6,000 words written.
Goal for March–April: I think 15,000 words in two months is not unreasonable. I’m going to try to make this happen.
Short Stories Two new stories ready for workshop. I think my goals in some ways contributed to procrastination since I had a little calculation that was showing me how much I needed to do per day that kept climbing as I fell behind. Still, I have a complete first draft of the story I’d been working on and I’m a few hundred words into the rewrite.
Goal for March–April: Get the current story ready for workshop plus one more new story ready for workshop.
Poems Eight new poems. I ended up finishing a whopping three poems in these two months, although I have a vague notion of what I’m writing next.
Goal for March–April: Everything above looks like identical goals, but other than the entertainment, they benefit from the work I’ve already done. With my poems, I’m going to make an explicit reduction and aim for six new poems by the end of April. Once I hit that, I want to review what I have in my collection of unpublished poems and then start sending stuff out on the 2026 submission round.
