As I try my new bi-monthly system of resolutions, I find myself falling short of my goals. I wish I could attribute it to circumstances beyond my control but largely it’s a consequence of having gotten addicted to Terraforming Mars on Board Game Arena. I really need to exercise some self control, especially since I don’t seem to be terribly good at the game.
As for progress on the goals:
New Novel Get two chapters finished. I’ve finished the first draft of the chapter in progress and started work on the rewrite, but I really should have finished the rewrite, revisions and started on the next chapter. One amusing thing: I printed a copy of the chapter and wrote my annotations on it in preparation for the rewrite. Then I misplaced it. I printed a fresh copy, redid the annotations and then found the first copy. I’m working from both sets of annotations and it’s interesting to see that in many cases my notes are identical in both versions.
Prognosis: Possible to get a second chapter finished in February, but it will be a stretch.
We, the Rescued Complete revisions on the novel. I’ve only managed to get the first six chapters revised.
Prognosis: This is doable to get complete, but will require more priority on my part. 23 chapters left means one chapter a day with a few days off.
Non-Fiction project Finish three chapters. Another bit of slow work. I’m doing revision work on the chapter I’ve been working on for forever, but decided that there needed to be a lot more information in one of the sections which has slowed me down a bit.
Prognosis: Unlikely. The best I can hope for is to finish this chapter and one more.
Entertainment 15,000 words written. Progress here has been below target here, although the chart looks pretty nice, but part of that is my poor progress last year. I only wrote 3500 words this month.
Prognosis: The 15000 word goal is possible, but will require more dedication to the project. I’ll need to write daily and only skip one day to get this done.
Short Stories Two new stories ready for workshop. A bit of a bright spot here even though I’ve fallen short of the goal. The story I’ve been working on since last summer has finally gotten a complete draft finished, but I’ve been procrastinating about reading it and annotating it before doing the rewrite and revision that will make it ready for workshop.
Prognosis: I suspect the best I can hope for is to have the current story finished and a first draft on a new story.
Poems Eight new poems. I’ve gotten two new poems written.
Prognosis: Possible, but a big stretch.
Nothing but rejections in the email this month, although one poem came close to acceptance at a journal I’ve been previously only getting form rejections from which is a nice sign.
