Albert Chmielowski is another one of these interesting figures, he was involved with the Polish independence movement in the 19th century and in a battle, was injured by a Russian grenade leading to his losing his leg. He went on to study engineering, but discovered he had a talent at painting so he dropped out of engineering school to study art instead and during that time, he turned increasingly to religious themes and after a flirtation with the Jesuits and the Franciscans, he ended up starting his own religious order, the Albertines (alongside Maria Jablońska who founded the Albertine sisters), an order deicated to caring for the homeless and destitute.
The picture is decent, working from a photograph on Wikipedia, but doesn’t adequately capture Albert’s face, I think.
