Today’s saint picture: Saint Lutgardis

Catholics have a tendency to overdo it with the priests, monks and nuns in their canon of Saints and Lutgardis falls into that category, although in her case, she originally entered the convent not out of any sense of vocation but because her dowry had been lost in a failed business venture. She was twelve at the time and spent the next eight years acting more like an upper-class teenager than a nun until she had a mystical vision of Christ at the age of twenty and made her solemn vows as a Benedictine nun.

The picture I drew is from a painting by Goya, again doing a tracing from a photographic image before doing some coloring and tracing to finish the picture.Image of Saint Lutgardis kneeling on a platform, looking heavenwards with her hands outstretched with flowers scattered at her knees. She is dressed in a white habit with black veil.
