Writerly resolutions: June status

I’ve always believed that good news never comes in self-addressed stamped envelopes. This month, I discovered this was not necessarily true as an SASE I picked up from my P.O. Box turned out to have not only an acceptance inside, but a check as well. I have a poem coming out later this year.

Word count graph for June showing slow progress as I finished the first draft of chapter six, then a drop off as I didn’t start the chapter six rewrite (although in my defense, I was out of the country when I finished working on the chapter) and then another drop after I workshopped the new chapter two and a slight uptick as I do a ground-up rewrite on the chapterProgress on the novel has been largely stalled although I do have a full first draft of chapter six and the new chapter two was workshopped last week and I’ve started working on the rewrite, but all of this translates to a progress graph for the month which looks more like descending steps than advancement.

I finished revisions on a new story (which began life as an essay) and got that into submission as well as revisions on an older story, getting that into submissions as well. I’ve got two new stories started (which is atypical for me) with one coming out of my recent sojourn to Paris.

I also finished revisions on my poems and began my annual poetry submission cycle. At the moment, I currently have enough stuff out right now that I don’t have any suitable open markets to send things to (although some should—theoretically—open up tomorrow).
