So looking back on the year, I set three goals:
Complete draft of the new novel Between indolence, deciding that the last novel could use another round of revision and ill-advisedly beginning a new large fiction project, this didn’t happen. I set an end-of-year goal at the beginning of November to get two new chapters finished and I failed miserably at this goal.
A lot of new stories out Kind of a mixed bag here. I got two new stories plus two excerpts from the new novel and some revisions of older pieces into submissions, but not a lot of additional new short fiction written. I set a goal of finishing a story I started over the summer done by year’s end in November and only managed to get about 80 words of new work on the story, although I’ve got a really good idea of where I’m going from here.
Build up more of a catalog of poems I got a few new poems together before I started my annual submit-a-palooza, but only one of those new poems remains unpublished while my cache of older poems has dwindled even further. I set a goal in November to add four new poems to the one new one I wrote earlier in the year and almost made it with three poems written and a fourth started but not done.
Some mid-year things popped up as well, with end-of-year goals:
Make some progress on the entertainment My totals ended up being 500 words in November and bupkis in December.
Finish body of the non-fiction project This entailed completing a total of five chapters, one of which was mostly done and another half-done. I managed to write finish a first draft of the mostly done chapter, but I’m still working on revising it.
Read through We, the Rescued at least once and get some revision notes together I got to chapter 17 out of 29 in December and I read the rest. There’s a little bit of additional research I’m doing but I hope to start revising next month.
In publication news, I had poems published in Exacting Clam this month.
