Today’s crummy saint picture, Saint Luke Loan Ba Vu

I wasn’t able to find any real information about this Vietnamese martyr online, beyond the link to a general wikipedia article about Vietnamese martyrs which only said that he was a Vietnamese priest.

My old parish in California had a sizable Vietnamese community which seemed almost like a separate church within the parish. Unlike the Spanish-speaking community, there was very little interaction with the English-speaking community other than that the Vietnamese-speaking priest would also do some of the English-language masses (at the time, the church had ten masses every weekend, presided over by three priests, a rather luxurious situation, in retrospect). It always seemed a shame that we didn’t have much cultural interchange.

The drawing is another quickly-drawn crayon sketch. I’m starting to think I may switch to drawing on the iPad.a crayon sketch of Saint Luke Loan Ba Vu from one of the few pictures I could find online. I worked from a statue showing him wearing a black cap (blue in my drawing because I can’t find my black crayon) having a long goatee and holding a book in his right hand
