Catholic nerd pilgrimage: Saint Thomas the Apostle

Today is the feast of Saint Thomas the Apostle, so I headed down to Hyde Park. Unfortunately, traffic was such that I ended up arriving fifteen minutes late which had me arrive in the middle of the consecration.

Hyde Park is a notably integrated and liberal neighborhood in Chicago, anchored by the University of Chicago. In an alternate universe, this would be my home parish, but as it is, Hyde Park is just far enough away for it to be a rare treat to head there (and apparently also a bit longer of a drive than Apple Maps believes it to be).

The frontish entrance to Saint Thomas the Apostle,, Rather than presenting a grand façade that leads directly into the nave, instead, with doors on the sides of the narthex. The church itself is a gothic-style building clad in brick

A view of the sanctuary during communion. The interior is relatively simple, although some aspects of the Tridentine sanctuary remain, with the original altar, reredos and canopy forming a major part of the sanctuary.
