Catholic nerd pilgrimage: Saint Martha

Today is the feast of Saints Martha and Mary, and their brother Saint Lazarus. For this feast, I traveled to St Martha church in Morton Grove. The church hosts the Shrine of All Saints, with relics from over 3200 saints, but apparently it requires an appointment for a docent-led tour. In any event, I forgot about its presence when I showed up for today’s Mass.

The front of the church, showing the arched entryway. The church has a high-ceilinged basement and the main worship area is up a number of steps from street level

I was a bit curious about the parish sign which also reads, “Chicago Nanoom Church” an entity about which I could find no information, but in the process, while looking up other information on the parish I realized I attended Mass in the “small church” and there’s apparently another, larger church building somewhere on the property which I didn’t notice at all.

The view of the sanctuary from the back of the church, showing a smallish area with a vaulted ceiling and a small arch over the sanctuary.
