I often wonder what led to the choices for some of the more obscurely named parishes. From reading parish histories on their websites, I’ve found that occasionally, a parish might be nominally named for a saint but in reality the name was chosen because it was the name of the mother or some other relative of the founding pastor.
But I doubt that the founding pastor of Saint Cyprian had a relative by that name, and it’s hard to imagine the congregation having a special devotion to the saint. It may simply be that they chose the name because the parish was founded on Cyprian’s feast day, but the parish has no record of that.
The church was built in 1950 and one thing I found interesting about it was that the artwork within the church was almost entirely two-dimensional. There are no statues inside (although the area outside the church has a number of statues), but paintings and reproductions of paintings abound inside.
