Catholic Nerd Pilgrimage: St Ita

Looking like a misspelling of “santita,” Saint Ita was an Irish saint and the church named for her was presumably originally an Irish parish although the neighborhood has changed a great deal and the Mass I attended was in Spanish.

Part of a three-church parish which also includes St Thomas of Canterbury. These two churches are the only ones I’ve noticed having outdoor signage inviting people to become Catholic.

The exterior of St Ita lit dramatically in the night sky. It’s a neo-gothic style church with a bell tower on the left. The gates around the front entrance are padlocked shut and entry to the church at night is through a door on the side of the churchThe sanctuary of the church. The altar was being prepared for eucharistic adoration when I took the picture. The saints chapel at the side of the church. There are a number of reliquaries in glass cases including relics from St Therese of Lisieux and a piece of cloth claimed to be from the tunic of St Joseph
