Thanks to having a spreadsheet with every parish church in the Archdiocese of Chicago along with the dates of the feasts of their patron saints, I would guess that I am one of a very small number of people who are aware that two of the churches in Niles have saints with the same feast day. While doing a bit of research on Saint John Brebeuf to know whether I took a picture of the right statue for the featured image for this post, I learned why: Saints John Brebeuf and Isaac Jogues were two of the Jesuit missionaries to Canada in the 17th century numbered among the Canadian Martyrs. Isaac Jogues is the younger of the two parishes and apparently another Canadian Martyr was chosen as a patron to maintain the continuity of the parish life when the new parish was formed.
The church has a circular worship space with a tower over its center with a cross topping it and the interior arranged in the 1960s short and wide congregational space. The Mass was moderately attended and music was provided by a lone cantor, singing unaccompanied.
