Today being the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, I had a variety of options for where to go, but I opted for Saint Paul’s church in the Pilsen neighborhood of Chicago.
I just checked the website to make sure that I wasn’t mistaken, and there was nothing there to indicate what I discovered when I arrived: The usual 10a Mass was canceled in favor of a single Mass for the weekend, held outside the church, at 11a. I had my kids with me, so we made a quick run for snacks to the nearest 7-Eleven and returned in time for the Mass which included a blessing of the motorcyclists of the parish and their bikes.
Overall, it was a pleasant Mass, despite the oppressive heat that’s been part of the Chicago experience for the last week or two and it felt like a strong community.
